Privacy policy
How worldmap.page handles information about you, including the cookies used for analytics and advertising.
Last updated: 22 September 2026
Summary
worldmap.page is a free reference site. You don’t need an account, and there are no forms, so we never ask for your name, email address or other contact details. The site does use cookies and similar technologies from Google Analytics (to measure visits) and Google AdSense (to show ads that keep the site free). Some features also load content from third-party services such as map-tile servers. Each of these receives your IP address and basic browser information when your browser contacts it. The rest of this page explains each service and the choices you have.
Who we are
This website, https://worldmap.page, is run by the operator of worldmap.page, who is the data controller for the information described here. For any privacy question or request, email contact@worldmap.page.
Information we collect
Information you give us. We only have information you choose to send us, for example if you email us. We use it to reply and delete it when it is no longer needed.
Information collected automatically. Like every website, our hosting provider receives technical data when you load a page: your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request. This data is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and diagnose problems, and it is kept only for a short time.
Analytics and advertising data. Google Analytics and Google AdSense may set cookies or use similar identifiers to collect information such as pages viewed, time on page, approximate location (derived from your IP address), device and browser details, and how you interact with ads. See the sections below.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. worldmap.page itself does not set cookies for its own features. The cookies you may see come from the third parties listed below:
- Google Analytics (for example
_ga,_ga_*) counts visits and shows which pages are useful. - Google AdSense and its advertising partners (for example
__gads,__gpi,IDE,NID) serve, measure and personalise ads and limit how often you see the same ad. - Consent management (for example
FCCDCF,FCNEC) remembers the privacy choices you make in our consent message.
Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), non-essential cookies are used only after you agree in the consent message shown on your first visit. You can change your choice at any time; see Your choices.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads on this site. In line with Google’s requirements:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies lets Google and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
If you don’t consent to personalised ads, you may still see non-personalised or limited ads. These are based on context, such as the page you are reading, rather than your browsing history. Google may still use cookies for these ads to prevent fraud and to limit how often each ad is shown. Google’s own practices are explained in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and in the Google Privacy Policy.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and how they reach the site. The reports we see are aggregated and do not identify individual visitors. Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses. Analytics data is kept for no longer than 14 months. You can block Google Analytics on every site with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Other third-party services
Some parts of the page load content directly from other providers. When they do, your browser sends those providers your IP address and standard request information. These services do not set cookies for us, and we do not receive any data from them about you.
- Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap and CARTO. They load only when the interactive map is displayed.
- The map library (Leaflet) is served from the unpkg content delivery network.
- Local time and temperature for a country’s capital come from Open-Meteo. The request includes only the capital’s coordinates, never your location.
Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for analytics and advertising cookies and for personalised ads. You can withdraw consent at any time. We rely on our legitimate interests for the technical processing needed to deliver the website securely, and for non-personalised ads where permitted.
US state privacy rights
Under some US state laws, such as California’s CCPA/CPRA, letting advertising partners collect data through cookies for targeted advertising may count as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell information in any other sense. You have the right to opt out, to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion and to not be discriminated against for using these rights. To opt out, use the privacy link in our consent message or enable Global Privacy Control in your browser, which we treat as an opt-out request. For other requests, email contact@worldmap.page.
Your choices
- Change your consent: Where a consent message applies to you, this button reopens it.
- Browser controls: you can block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings. The site still works without them, although ads may be less relevant.
- Ad personalisation: use Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.
- Analytics: install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to its processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent. We don’t hold accounts or profiles, so most data related to your visit is held by the third parties above. You can exercise your rights directly with them, or contact us and we will help. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
International transfers
Google and some of the other providers above may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers are protected by safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
Children
worldmap.page is a general-audience reference site and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our services or the law change. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it was last revised.
